The College is preparing an application to be part of the pilot programme for the introduction of Leaving Certificate Physical Education as an examination subject. To assist us with this application, we invite students in 3rd Year and Transition Year to complete the survey below so that the student voice is reflected. Please read the short summary below before completing the survey.

The general aim of Physical Education at senior cycle is to develop the young person’s capacity to participate in physical education and physical activity in a confident and informed way. This will be a Leaving Certificate subject like all others. It can be studied at Higher and Ordinary Levels. While there will be a practical element, there will also be significant academic requirements. Students will be assessed in three areas:

· Physical Activity Project 20%

· Performance Assessment 30%

· Written Examination 50%

A student taking this subject will need to be self-motivated, have a keen interest in all sports as well as an interest in physiology, anatomy, nutrition, sports psychology and have good I.T. skills. Students will need good competencies in Science and English at Junior Cycle.
